The seaman

He laughs, as though there's a joke between us
I have no idea who he is
The grin set into his dark, weather beaten face
Makes me smile back
A laugh ripples around me, deep and rolling
Like the ocean he calls home
His hands are wide and strong, his shoulders broad and proud
Lines set deep around his eyes and mouth
Smiling lines crease his face
I wave back, laughing at myself
Who was that man
Who brought me a moment of joy?
